Samhain Sunset at Grange Stone Circle, Lough Gur, Limerick
Gallery Edition: Limited to 75 in series of three sizes on heavyweight fine art paper.
Artist Edition: Limited to 15. Large format fine art print float-mounted in wooden tray frame. Prices on request.
Grange Stone Circle, County Limerick, Ireland with the setting sun on the cross-quarter day, directly above Stone 69. Viewed from the passage of the circle.
While Grange may be more popularly associated with the sunrise on the Summer Solstice, I’ve been chasing the original story from 1912 of an astronomical orientation centred around the November/February cross-quarter days. For the past 15 years I’ve been visiting the site around these sunsets, observing the light in the passage and the shadows inside the circle itself. The clearing of some trees which formerly obscured the horizon allowed a much clearer observation in recent years, culminating in a series of images caputring the event from beginning to end.
